PRELIMINARY EXERCISES

I have studied camera angles by reading Daniel Chandler's website  The Grammar of Television and Film.

CAMERA SHOTS AND ANGLES:

PRODUCTION COMPANY LOGO:

I used Photoshop for the fourth time to create a simple production company logo. I decided to use an A4 landscape; with the colour black and white. I chose a name that packs punch / has a personal relevance. Therefore, I have decided to call mine HILL LIMITLESS, I have decided to incorporate a tree into the logo as it connotes endless disperse of life with a growing idea .

ON THE SET:

This is a report of my journey of learning and becoming familiar with the equipment I shall use to create our practical work; in this case I will being using the Cannon cameras and Manfrotto tripods.

Cameras and tripods. In groups we got comfortable with the equipment and each of us practised how to handle the camera, insert the battery and memory card. When doing this we treated the equipment with great care by making sure with didn`t damage any equipment, this was done by passing the cameras around and saying 'yours' and 'mine' to avoid the risk of dropping it.  We learned how to set up a tripod and adjust its height. We also learnt how to get a stable shot by using the 'bubble'. This acts as a spirit level to help make the camera balanced and in focus.

On set. During using the camera we learnt the terminology used in the film industry on set this helped to provide a swift and quick set of filming to help get the most professional shots. The director shouts 'Standby' before filming to ensure that everyone is ready and when they are, they reply 'Standing by.'
Continuity Editing:

We were set a task to make a short clip with continuity editing in order to try and involve the camera angle we recently have learnt. Our short clip had to be an original idea, which we can include multiple cameras shots/ angles and clean editing. In our exercise we planned to use a range of shots including close ups, tilt pans, tracking shots, over the shoulder shots, extreme close ups and high angle shots. Within this, we had to assign roles and edit our clips together. Our continuity exercise is set around the airport security. During the film I played the security guard and Olivia played the pedestrian.

Table Top exercise:

This week, we made practice film openings using the idea of 'table top' filming. Our brief was to film in one continuous take and to include a tiny live action element at the start of the opening. We viewed three examples of opening sequences filmed in a similar 'table top' style. Using Art of the Titlewe watched Delicatessen and noticed how its inventive camerawork tells a story and sets the theme. For example they in bend the title. Another excellent title sequence was that of To Kill A Mockingbird. We then use these as inspiration to create an original title sequence in groups by setting up the mise-en-scène using props from our props collection.

PLANNING-

Before filming started, we laid out all the props that were elements of our film narrative's mise-en-scène on the table, to help us decide an appropriate route for the camera to follow and to tell a story

We also researched and discussed music tracks for the soundtrack. We chose Laughing on the outside and crying on the inside - Bernadette Carrol as our sound track
